Tom Smith

Partner & Designer

Tom Smith, Partner and Designer for C3 Gardens is also President of Four Star Greenhouse, Inc., a wholesale greenhouse growing operation. He literally grew up in the greenhouse industry. At the age of seven, he began helping his father in the greenhouse, doing everything from irrigating crops to mixing fertilizer and transplanting. As he grew, so did his love of the greenhouse industry and after graduating from high school, Smith started his own greenhouse business which produced its first spring crop in 1977.

With an expertise in young plant production and vegetative propagation, Smith has made presentations to groups and associations across the country, including the Ohio Florist Association, the Professional Plant Growers Association, and the Grower Expo. In his speeches, he has addressed such diverse topics as hanging basket production, water conservation and plug germination and production. Smith and Four Star Greenhouse have been widely recognized as leaders in the greenhouse industry, receiving Grower of the Year awards. Additionally, they have been featured in GrowerTalks and Greenhouse Grower magazines. Considered to be the gardening expert in his local area, Smith hosted several summer gardening segments on WDIV-TV and continues to do gardening updates and features for the station as needed.

An avid pilot, Smith supports his industry with memberships in the Professional Plant Growers Association, the Ohio Florists' Association and The Society of American Florists. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Detroit Metropolitan Flower Growers Association and is a member of the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association.

His latest venture with Jack Barnwell is already turning heads in Southwest Florida as C3 Gardens brings the best plants together with top notch design and immaculate maintenance. Tom and his wife Sharon enjoy their home on Marco Island, but they enjoy their gardens even more.

"I've enjoyed my deck more than ever due to the pots and beautiful flowers! I look forward to expanding my "garden" next year. Thanks so much for making it happen!"
